Japan Airlines (JAL) confirmed on Thursday that it has fallen victim to a cyber attack, which could disrupt its flight operations. While the airline did not provide specific details, a spokesperson stated that efforts are underway to address the situation.
“We can confirm that we have been subjected to a cyber attack and are currently managing the issue,” the spokesperson told AFP. “It is likely that this will impact flight operations going forward,” she added.
The airline warned that passengers may experience delays or cancellations, though it has not yet provided details on affected flights. Japan Airlines, the country’s second-largest airline after All Nippon Airways (ANA), is the latest in a series of high-profile Japanese companies targeted by cyber attackers.
In 2022, a cyber attack on a supplier to Toyota led to a temporary halt in production at the automaker’s domestic plants. More recently, Japan’s popular video-sharing platform Niconico was forced to suspend services in June after experiencing a large-scale cyber attack.
JAL has yet to confirm the extent of the damage or provide an estimated timeline for resolving the issue.
