NEW DELHI: The central government will observe a seven-day national mourning to honor former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night, sources confirmed. His final rites will be performed with full state honours.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will convene on Friday morning, and all government events scheduled for the period will be canceled.

In a mark of respect, the Congress party has also canceled all official events for the next seven days, including its foundation day celebrations. “This includes all protests and outreach activities. Party events will resume on January 3, 2025. During this mourning period, the party flag will be flown at half-mast,” said Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.
