PUNE: A 25-year-old BPO employee, Shubhada Kodare, was brutally attacked and killed with a cleaver by her colleague, Krishna Satyanarayan Kanojia (27), in the parking lot of their workplace on Tuesday. Shockingly, the attack unfolded in front of nearly two dozen onlookers who failed to intervene.

Shubhada, who sustained severe injuries, succumbed later that evening at a private hospital. Kanojia, who carried out the attack allegedly over a financial dispute, was arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

A disturbing video of the incident surfaced online on Thursday, showing Kanojia pacing calmly with the cleaver before Shubhada collapsed, bleeding profusely. The video reveals that while about 20 bystanders witnessed the attack, no one stepped forward to help. Some only restrained Kanojia after he discarded the weapon.

Details of the Dispute
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil stated that both Shubhada and Kanojia were employed as executives in the accounts department of a BPO in Ramwadi, Yerawada. About a year ago, Shubhada, originally from Karad in Satara, borrowed approximately ₹4 lakh from Kanojia, claiming it was for her father’s medical treatment.

Kanojia later discovered that her father had no health issues during a visit meant to show goodwill. Realizing he had been deceived, he demanded the return of his money. However, Shubhada allegedly avoided him, leading to frequent arguments. Three months ago, she even filed a non-cognizable offense against him.

Frustrated and enraged, Kanojia reportedly premeditated the attack. “He came prepared and assaulted her,” Patil said.

Authorities continue their investigation into the incident and the lack of response from bystanders.
