A 24-year-old Kundalahalli lady committed suicide at a hotel after her uncle allegedly blackmailed her using her private images and videos, police said Thursday. The culprit has been apprehended.
Shivakumar Gunar, Whitefield’s deputy commissioner of police, said the incident occurred on Sunday evening at a hotel near Kundalahalli metro station.
He stated, “The uncle coerced the woman into meeting at the hotel by threatening to show her private photos and videos to her parents.” She was originally hesitant to meet her uncle, but was forced to do so owing to threats.”
The officer also said that the woman was in a relationship with another guy, which enraged the accused and prompted him to escalate his threats. The woman worked at a software company. “At the hotel, when the accused was forcing the victim to view the photos and videos, she set herself ablaze,” he recalled.
According to Gunar, the woman was brought to Victoria Hospital with severe burn injuries, however she eventually died from her wounds. “Her mother was notified of the incident while she was being transferred to the hospital,” the doctor said.
According to the officer, the family discovered the cause of their daughter’s murder after one of her acquaintances approached them on Monday and stated that the deceased had been exposed to ongoing blackmail. “She stated that the woman was sexually assaulted by her uncle, who allegedly kept explicit photos of her to threaten her.”
“The parents confirmed that their daughter frequently stayed at the accused’s home and traveled with him and his wife on holidays. They expressed surprise, claiming that their daughter was not weak and committed herself owing to his excruciating torture,” Gunar said, adding that the accused has been arrested under BNS sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5).
