NEW DELHI: A man accused of murdering a 50-year-old beautician, Anita Chaudhary, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has been arrested in South Mumbai after being on the run for nine days, police confirmed on Thursday.

The accused, Gulamuddin Farooqui, allegedly killed Chaudhary in late October, reportedly to steal her gold ornaments. After the murder, her body was dismembered and buried in a 10-foot-deep pit near Gulamuddin’s residence.

Arrest Following Tip-Off

Acting on a tip-off about Gulamuddin’s presence in Mumbai, a joint operation by Mumbai’s V.P. Road police and Rajasthan police led to his apprehension. Following his arrest, he was handed over to Jodhpur police for further investigation.

Crime Uncovered

The crime surfaced on October 28 when a missing person’s report was filed, prompting an investigation. Police discovered that Chaudhary had visited Gulamuddin’s house on the day she disappeared.

During the investigation, Gulamuddin’s wife confessed to police that her husband had murdered Chaudhary. She also admitted to helping him cover up the crime. While Gulamuddin fled to Mumbai to avoid capture, his wife was arrested for her role in the incident.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities working to gather further evidence and determine the full extent of the crime.
