Meerut: A 15-year-old boy died of electrocution after a Chinese manjha attached to a kite he was trying to grab came in contact with a high-tension power line in Saharanpur’s Amardeep Colony, police said on Sunday.

Tushar Dhamija, who was visiting his aunt’s house, went to the terrace to retrieve a kite entangled in an electric wire. As soon as he grabbed the manjha, he received a powerful shock, causing his clothes to catch fire. He suffered severe burns and lost consciousness. A neighbor spotted him and alerted others, said local resident Satish Kumar.

Tushar was rushed to the district hospital and later referred to AIIMS Rishikesh, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police stated that no official complaint had been filed regarding the incident.

On the same day, authorities cracked down on the illegal sale of Chinese manjha, arresting two men and seizing 350 spools of the banned thread. According to police, the accused were selling it for ₹1,000 per spool, making a 50% profit.

Saharanpur (City) SP Vyom Bindal warned that Chinese manjha, coated with pulverized glass and metal dust, is a conductor of electricity, making it extremely dangerous.
