NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to the United States starting February 12 for high-level talks with US President Donald Trump, sources confirmed on Monday, as reported by PTI.
This marks Modi’s first bilateral visit to Washington since Trump secured a second term in the White House. His early engagement with the US leader highlights the strategic significance of Indo-US ties, making him one of the first foreign leaders to meet Trump in person following the new administration’s inauguration.
The visit follows Modi’s two-day trip to France, where he will attend the AI Action Summit on February 10-11 at the Grand Palais. Hosted by the French government, the summit will bring together global leaders, business executives, academics, and civil society members to discuss artificial intelligence advancements and regulatory frameworks, according to the Élysée Palace.
While official details of Modi’s US visit remain undisclosed, discussions are expected to cover trade, defense cooperation, and regional security, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. Following his inauguration, PM Modi spoke with him over the phone on January 27, reaffirming their commitment to a “trusted” partnership with a focus on trade, energy, and defense collaboration.
India was represented at Trump’s swearing-in ceremony by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who also delivered a personal letter from Modi to the newly inaugurated US President.
