NEW DELHI: Delhi Police are investigating the case of two men caught with Rs 5 lakh in cash, identifying them as Gaurav and Ajit, who were linked to the office of Chief Minister Atishi. Officials claim to have recovered “coded messages” and chats discussing alleged recipients of the money.
The duo reportedly told police that the cash was meant for “booth management” in Giri Nagar, Kalkaji. Authorities are currently verifying these claims.
“Gaurav worked as an assistant (office boy) for the CM’s PA, Pankaj, and was in frequent contact with him. Ajit, the other individual, is a driver,” said DCP (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh. Police may soon summon Pankaj for questioning.
The two were detained on Tuesday night, just hours before Delhi was set to go to the polls. “After receiving information about individuals caught with Rs 5 lakh, our team reached the spot, and the flying squad team (FST) detained Gaurav and Ajit,” DCP Singh stated.
The district election officer/district magistrate (South-East) later confirmed on X: “FST found two individuals, Gaurav and Ajit, in a car with Rs 5 lakh. Gaurav claimed the money was received from Pankaj, PA to Ms. Atishi, for booth management in Giri Nagar, Kalkaji. The cash has been seized, and police are conducting further investigations.”
