PALANPUR/AHMEDABAD: A tragic accident at a road construction site in Banaskantha district claimed the lives of three women and a two-year-old child when a sand-laden dumper truck toppled onto them.
The victims were identified as Renuka Ganawa (24), Sonal Ninama (22), Ila Bhabhor (40), and Rudra (2).
The incident occurred on Saturday night in Khengarpura village, where labourers were engaged in road construction work.
Dumper Loses Control, Crushing Workers
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police S.M. Varotariya, witnesses saw the dumper attempting to navigate a narrow passage when it overturned onto three women digging the road.
“The labourers were excavating soil for a wall construction along the road when the sand-filled truck recklessly tried to maneuver through the tight turn,” Varotariya explained. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to fall onto three women and a child playing nearby.
Rescue and Legal Action
A two-hour-long rescue operation was carried out using cranes and bulldozers to free those trapped. The victims were rushed to a government hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
Tharad Police Inspector R.R. Rathwa confirmed that around 10 labourers were at the site at the time of the accident. The dumper driver has been detained, and an FIR has been registered against him.
Dr. Jaideep Trivedi, medical officer at the Tharad Government Hospital, stated that the bodies had been sent for postmortem following a police inquest.
