Bengaluru: Police have arrested three individuals, including the vice principal of a law college in Kolar, for allegedly leaking multiple question papers from the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) exams held last month.

The accused have been identified as Nagaraj, vice principal of Basavashree College of Law and a resident of Anekal, his driver Varun Kumar, and student Jagadish. Investigations revealed that Nagaraj was the custodian of exam papers for the January 2025 exams and was directly involved in the leak.

While the initial police complaint mentioned the leak of just one paper, further investigations uncovered that at least three question papers were leaked, a senior police officer confirmed.

How the Paper Leak Unfolded

According to the probe:

  • On the night of January 22, Nagaraj broke the seal of the “Contract-1” question paper bundle, took pictures of the paper, and sent them via WhatsApp to students.
  • His driver, Varun Kumar, forwarded the leaked paper to others in exchange for money.
  • Jagadish, a student, further sold the leaked paper to his contacts.

The Contract-1 exam was conducted on January 23, but the exam squad detected the leak the same day.

Investigation and Legal Action

A formal complaint was lodged with the cybercrime police in early February by Vishwanatha KN, chairman of SJM Law College and a member of the flying squad.

The complaint stated that 10 out of the 20 questions in the Contract-1 exam paper were an exact match with those in the leaked version.

“A member of my squad, Ravindra Rajput, shared some of the leaked questions on my mobile via WhatsApp. Upon verification, I found that five long and five short questions were identical to the ones in the actual exam paper. This confirms that the paper was leaked via social media, and we request strict legal action,” Vishwanatha stated.

Authorities suspect a larger network behind the leak, and further investigations are underway to identify additional suspects.
