Annamayya: A tragic incident unfolded in Seshachalam forest early Tuesday morning when a herd of elephants attacked a group of devotees en route to Lord Shiva’s temple in Talakona for the Mahashivratri celebrations. The attack, which occurred around 5:30 AM, left five people dead and several others injured.

According to police officials, the devotees attempted to scare away the elephants by shouting, but this provoked the animals, making them aggressive. The elephants encircled and attacked the group, trampling some of them to death.

As panic ensued, the devotees tried to flee, but the elephants charged, killing five on the spot and leaving several others wounded.

  • Police and forest department officials rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
  • The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors reported that two victims remain in critical condition.
