Recently, a 90-hour workweek was suggested for Indian workers, which is now being slammed by a few influential people, one of them being Akhilesh Yadav.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief asked if such a suggestion was even meant for human beings or robots.
He raised questions like whether the people suggesting these rules have followed them in their youth, and if yes, then if they have followed them without sacrificing their work-life balance. He advocates work-life balance and mentions that the quality of work is more important than the quantity of work.
He says “People want to live with their emotions and families. When only a handful of people benefit from economic growth, then whether the economy reaches USD 30 trillion or USD 100 trillion, it makes no difference to the common citizen,” He further adds “Entertainment and the film industry contribute billions to the economy. It helps people feel refreshed, revived and re-energized, which ultimately improves work quality”.
The Kannauj MP questioned if these people making the suggestions even worked for that long in their youth and he implies this by asking, “If they truly worked 90 hours a week back then, why has our economy only reached this level?”
He was very conscious about talking about a mentally healthy working environment which according to him is very necessary to foster the growth of an individual and through the individual, of the whole country.
