Jaipur: In response to the demand from resident doctors, the state’s medical education department has announced an increase in the number of seats for senior resident doctors at medical colleges.
Previously, there were around 3,500 seats available across various medical departments at state medical colleges. However, after a video conference between officials from the medical education department and department heads from all medical colleges, an additional 1,727 seats have been created.
A resident doctor, who recently completed their postgraduate degree and is now applying for a senior resident position, shared, “Senior residency is a crucial, one-year mandatory teaching experience needed to be eligible for assistant professor roles. These additional seats are designed to strengthen medical education and improve patient care in the state. The counselling process for these positions will begin soon, allowing eligible PG doctors to apply.”
Senior residents play a key role in medical colleges, supporting both academic and clinical training. They assist faculty in teaching medical students, conducting research, and managing patient care in hospitals. This experience equips them with the skills needed for advanced academic and healthcare roles.
The upcoming counselling process will provide postgraduate doctors with opportunities to secure positions in their specialties. This initiative is expected to benefit medical professionals and healthcare institutions, ensuring a steady supply of trained doctors in Rajasthan’s medical colleges and hospitals.
