Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu: In an unusual turn of events, a 60-year-old man’s body was brought to a wedding hall to symbolically bless his son’s marriage after he passed away during the engagement ceremony. The grieving family, instead of postponing the wedding, decided to advance it, honoring the late father’s wish.

Tragic Turn During Engagement

The deceased, Varadaraj, a textile merchant from Perugopanapalli village, had been attending the engagement of his eldest son, Manish (26), and Kavya Priya (21) on Sunday evening when tragedy struck. The wedding was originally scheduled for Monday morning at a hall in Mathur.

During the engagement ceremony, Varadaraj collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a fatal heart attack. The sudden loss left family members, relatives, and guests in shock.

Wife Insists Wedding Must Go On

As relatives debated whether to postpone the wedding, Manjula (48), Varadaraj’s wife, made an emotional appeal to go ahead with the ceremony.

“My husband arranged this wedding. If his soul is to find peace, the marriage must happen,” she insisted.

Despite initial hesitation, the family ultimately agreed to fulfill her wish.

A Wedding Amid Grief

In a deeply emotional moment, Varadaraj’s body, dressed in a silk dhoti and shirt, was brought to the hall. The mangalsutra was placed in his hands before his son, Manish, “received” it from him and tied it around the bride’s neck.

The wedding took place in a somber atmosphere, with attendees moved by the unconventional yet poignant gesture.

Funeral Follows the Wedding

On Monday, just hours after the wedding, the family performed Varadaraj’s funeral rites, marking an unforeseen sequence of events that left the entire village in awe.

While grief and joy rarely intertwine, this family’s decision was a testament to love, duty, and tradition—even in the face of immense sorrow.
