Fear is a factor when triggered can certainly threaten our physical, emotional, or psychological well-being. It is like cancer that roots in our brain and continues to grow slowly and steadily until it takes the toll on us entirely. It is a disease that paralyses our perspective and behavior towards life. But how does it takes root within us?

A single cancer cell is required to evolve into a malignant mass of tumor leading to the downfall of an entire organism, likewise, a single thought is sufficient to create a series of emotions within. The mere idea of tomorrow or of the other day is enough to create ripples of thought that could result in a chain of anxiety. Whether it be the fear of acceptance, fulfillment, rejection, or abandonment, the common pulse is the control. Fear is an emotion that triggers anger, insecurity, sorrow, jealousy, distress, and dismay, it plays a different role in every individual’s life depending on the degree of attachment to someone or something. The assumptions we make about ourselves are based on our past experiences or are an idea of what we choose to believe. The ability to form mental pictures or ideas in the mind enables us to recreate or manipulate internal representation. These mental images give rise to the experience of “seeing with our mind’s eye”, and when we look inside to discover our fear, we tend to fight, surrender or accept.

We all fall victim to our fears somewhere or the other and fearing situations can be healthy as they keep us on course but it becomes toxic when it makes us more cautious than we really need to be. Irrational fear is nothing but a figment of our imagination and if unmanaged, it may lead to self-sabotaging behavior without even realizing it. Self-sabotaging erodes self-confidence and self-esteem and in this state, we either lose the ability to think or constantly overthink. There are many fears that we may encounter on a daily basis, but losing ourselves to the circumstances is the first step to submission. So, when we are blinded by our fears, how can we overcome them?

Well, faith is the road through the impossible, one step can start a new journey or can change our entire life. Why are we terrorized by fear? Everything that we have access to today exists until the time we are alive, whether it be luxury, power, or relations, but what about when we are gone? We are so afraid of losing that we forget to live in the present. Ultimately, reality is the only thing that is real and in this journey of life, we must only fear not living a celebratory life.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear – Nelson Mandela
