MUMBAI: Air India, owned by Tata Group, has cancelled around 60 flights to the US scheduled for the busy travel months of November and December. Typically, airfares between India and the US are high during this period, but these cancellations are likely to drive prices even higher, affecting both non-stop and connecting flights.
Flights from Delhi to cities like Washington, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, as well as from Mumbai to New York, are among those affected. Currently, Air India is the only Indian airline operating flights to the US. The airline stated that the cancellations were due to delays in the return of several aircraft from heavy maintenance and supply chain issues, resulting in a temporary reduction in their operating fleet.
“Air India regrets that a small number of flights have been cancelled through the end of December. Affected customers have been informed and offered alternative flights on nearby dates, the option to change dates for free, or a full refund. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by these circumstances beyond our control,” an Air India spokesperson said.
