NEW DELHI: After experiencing very light to light showers on Sunday evening, Delhi is expected to see more intense rain from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
While no rain was recorded at any station in the city from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm, some parts of the capital reported rainfall between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
Safdarjung, the city’s base station, logged 4.5mm of rainfall during this period. The rainfall distribution was uneven, with SPS Mayur Vihar receiving 4.5mm, Narela recording 3.5mm, and Palam and Delhi University reporting very light rainfall of 1.5mm each.
A Met official stated that very light to light rain is expected on Monday, accompanied by strong surface winds at speeds of 25-35 kmph during the daytime.
IMD data reveals that Safdarjung has received 114.1mm of rainfall so far in August, with 107.6mm recorded in a single day on August 1 during a heavy rain spell. The long-period average rainfall for the entire month of August is 233.1mm.
July ended with a 3% rain deficit, logging 203.7mm of rainfall compared to the normal 209.7mm for the month.
Delhi’s air quality remained within the ‘satisfactory’ category on Sunday, with an AQI of 62. It is expected to stay in the same category until Wednesday. The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi predicts the AQI will remain in the ‘satisfactory’ to ‘moderate’ category for the following six days from Wednesday onwards.
