BAHRAICH: A three-year-old girl was killed, and two women were injured in a wolf attack late last night in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. The incident marks yet another strike by a pack of man-eating wolves that has terrorized the district, leading to multiple fatalities.
Authorities reported that the wolves also attacked a nine-year-old boy on Saturday. The pack has been responsible for several deaths in the area, prompting a large-scale operation to capture the animals and prevent further attacks. So far, four wolves have been captured, but two remain at large.
The latest incident occurred in Tepra village, just six days after the previous attack. “This incident took place in Tepra village… The woman has been injured and is receiving treatment. The wolf typically becomes active after 5-6 days, and a new village is targeted each time, which complicates the operation. The Forest Department is doing its utmost to capture the remaining wolves,” said Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani, speaking to ANI.
On Sunday, Chief Forest Conservator (Central Zone) Renu Singh reviewed the ongoing “Operation Bhediya,” which aims to end the wolves’ killing spree. Over the past two months, seven children and one woman have died in wolf attacks in Bahraich.
The two remaining wolves were spotted on Saturday night. “We saw the wolves last night and again in the morning, but they managed to escape. The team made efforts to capture them on Sunday morning but was unsuccessful,” Singh said. In a separate incident on Saturday night, a nine-year-old boy and a 55-year-old man were also attacked by a wolf while they were sleeping outside their homes.
