BENGALURU: A 36-year-old software professional allegedly killed his 32-year-old wife, stuffed her body in a suitcase, and fled their rented home in south Bengaluru—only to be arrested near Pune within 24 hours.

The victim, Gouri Anil Sambrekar, was a mass media graduate searching for a job. The accused, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, worked as a project manager in a software firm. The couple had moved into a first-floor house in Doddakammanahalli, near Hulimavu, just a month ago. Police believe they relocated from Mumbai but are still verifying the timeline of their move to Bengaluru.

Confession Leads to Discovery

The crime came to light on Thursday evening when Rakesh called his landlord around 5:30 PM, confessing that he had killed his wife the previous night before fleeing the city. He instructed the landlord to alert the police and Gouri’s family for funeral arrangements.

Shocked by the revelation, the landlord rushed to the house, found the door locked from the outside, and immediately alerted emergency helpline 112. Hulimavu police broke open the door and discovered Gouri’s body stuffed inside a trolley suitcase.

Swift Arrest in Maharashtra

Tracking Rakesh’s mobile activity, DCP (Southeast) Sarah Fathima coordinated with Maharashtra police. A Bengaluru police team took a flight to Pune and, with the help of their Maharashtra counterparts, arrested Rakesh near Pune around 9:30 PM. He is being brought back to Bengaluru for further investigation.
