PATNA/DARJEELING: A viral video showing the assault of two job aspirants from Bihar in West Bengal has ignited widespread anger among political leaders, prompting police action that resulted in the detention of one suspect.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh shared the footage on social media, depicting the incident in Siliguri where Bihar students, including Ankit Yadav from Danapur, were in town for a physical test for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exam.
The assailants confronted the students about their presence in West Bengal, demanding identification and harassing them for not being locals. One attacker, identified as Rajat Bhattacharya, a member of the pro-Bengali group Bangla Pokkho, was taken into custody for questioning by the Siliguri anti-crime unit. Bhattacharya also posted the video on his social media account.
Giriraj Singh criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming her government prioritizes “Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators” over local citizens.
