A section of a British-era bridge over the Ganga, which had been the primary link between Unnao and Kanpur, collapsed on Tuesday. The bridge had been closed to traffic for over 3.5 years due to developing fissures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The collapse caused a stir in the Shuklaganj area, with onlookers capturing the event on video and sharing it on social media. The bridge, constructed in 1874 by the Awadh and Rohilkhand Limited Company during British rule, had stood for nearly 150 years. Local residents also shared stories about its history. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement. The administration is now working to demolish the collapsed portion to ensure the safety of river vessels and bathers below.
