Keir Starmer stated that the significant measures agreed upon during the European leaders’ summit are designed to bolster Ukraine and enhance its security. On Sunday, the British Prime Minister emphasized that European countries find themselves at a “crossroads in history” and must recognize that “it is time to act,” following a defense summit focused on Ukraine. He unveiled a four-step strategy that was deliberated at the Lancaster House meeting, which includes a pledge to establish a “coalition of the willing” to uphold a peace agreement in Ukraine and ensure its security. After the summit, the Prime Minister revealed a £1.6 billion financial package aimed at enabling Ukraine to procure over 5,000 missiles. Starmer remarked that “every nation must contribute” in its own capacity, noting that several “important steps” were reached during the summit. He outlined the four-step plan for Ukraine as follows: “First, we will maintain the flow of military aid and continue to apply economic pressure on Russia to support Ukraine at this critical time. Second, we concurred that any sustainable peace must guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, with Ukraine actively involved in the discussions. Third, should a peace agreement be reached, we will enhance Ukraine’s defensive capabilities to deter any potential future aggression. Fourth, we will further develop a coalition of the willing to uphold a deal in Ukraine and ensure lasting peace,” stated Keir Starmer. He added, “While not every nation may be in a position to contribute, that should not lead to inaction. Instead, those willing must urgently intensify their planning. The UK is ready to support this with military personnel and aircraft, alongside our allies. Europe must take the lead in this effort.” Among the summit participants were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who subsequently traveled to Sandringham to meet with the King, and French President Emmanuel Macron, both of whom met with US President Donald Trump at the White House earlier this week.
