The CBI has accused Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, of attempting to conceal crucial information and mislead the ongoing rape-and-murder investigation involving a PGT doctor from R College. This accusation follows the analysis of his layered voice analysis (LVA) and polygraph test results conducted by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

The CBI conducted a series of polygraph tests over three days, which revealed that Ghosh’s statements were deceptive. The agency’s investigation, which began with an LVA on August 25, found inconsistencies in Ghosh’s responses despite not taking him into custody initially.

LVA, a technique used to gauge stress levels and emotional responses through voice analysis, provided insights into Ghosh’s thoughts and flagged questions that caused him discomfort. The subsequent polygraph tests, conducted on August 26, 27, and 28, further supported concerns about the authenticity of Ghosh’s statements. All test results were forwarded to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi for detailed analysis.

In court, the CBI reported that Ghosh’s statements were found to be “deceptive on certain critical issues” related to the case. Investigators noted that Ghosh was aware of the doctor’s death at 9:58 am on August 9 but delayed reporting it to the police, making his first call exactly five minutes later to former Tala PS OC Abhijit Mandal. The authorities are scrutinizing this five-minute gap to understand the delay.

Furthermore, Ghosh claimed to have instructed a subordinate (MSVP) to handle the situation after notifying Mandal and stated he arrived at the hospital around 11:30 am to ask the MSVP to file a police complaint. However, a case of “unnatural death” was already registered at the Tala police station by that time. The formal complaint from the MSVP was only lodged at 2:55 pm. The CBI suggests that Ghosh’s attempts to delay and manipulate the reporting process were intended to obfuscate the investigation and are now focusing on the delays by the hospital in registering the complaint.
