Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Peru has signed a contract with the Chinese consortium CHEC SAC-CCCC4TH for the construction of the Chancay multipurpose port.
The project’s builder was chosen by tender. Construction costs are estimated at $600m for the port and the administrative area at the port entrance within scope.
The first pier is expected to be ready by the end of the first half of 2023. Machinery mobilising and preparations for the start of construction are in the final phase ready to build piers, breakwaters, maintenance and operational areas, manoeuvring and storage areas and administrative management areas.
Chancay Port Terminal is located 67km north of Lima, the Capital of Peru. The terminal is designed to receive general cargo—excluding bulk minerals—and containerised cargo, with capacity to receive triple-E container ships directly from Asia, creating a gateways to Peru and the region. The port will have an annual capacity of 1.5m teu and 6 mln tonnes of general cargo.
The project will boost the country’s economy, boost exports, and generate new business opportunities, especially in the northern part of Lima.
A tunnel for cargo traffic connecting the entrance complex with the port’s operational area will be 1.8km long and for cargo traffic only, preventing congestion on public roads.
A camp has been set up to house up 1,500 people workers for the project. Direct and indirect jobs will be progressively increased, generating employment options and representing an important economic injection of private capital into Peru’s economy.
