Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday that artificial intelligence (AI) will be utilized to enhance policing and address traffic management issues in the state.

Speaking to the media after a meeting of the home department, which he leads, Fadnavis mentioned that IIM Nagpur, in collaboration with the government, has prepared a report on using AI for effective policing, crime detection, and predictive analysis.

“A government company will be formed to roll out the project soon. AI will allow for analysis of criminals and the nature of crimes, as well as cybercrime data analysis and traffic management solutions. Different modules will be developed for various units,” he explained.

Fadnavis also noted that the ongoing police recruitment drive might face delays due to the rains and the model code of conduct for the assembly polls in October. He expressed concern that some candidates might not get another opportunity due to the age limit. He added that new dates for outdoor physical tests have been announced for areas affected by rain.
