ConexBird will trial its container physical condition measuring system on three cranes at Jebel Ali in a deal with DP World.
The proof of concept (POC) agreement will see Conexbird’s measuring equipment installed and operated on three Jebel Ali STS cranes. The patented solution allows the measurement of the physical condition of containers as they are being lifted by cranes.
Measurements are taken by real-time resonance testing and processed through machine learning software to obtain diverse information on the container. That data will be commercialised under the POC deal, giving DP World the opportunity to report container condition to its customers – shipping lines.
Teuvo Heikkilä, CEO of ConexBird, said of the project: “With our container condition insight, ConexBird’s goal is to help ports create new added value for themselves, for shipping lines and for other intermodal stakeholders, in order to make container shipping as smart, safe and sustainable as possible: we see in DP World an innovative, forward-thinking partner alongside whom this vision can become reality.”
Nicholas Gallie, COO of ConexBird, noted that “Shipping lines, land-side transport, depots and shippers alike will benefit from the cost savings, operational improvements and asset condition knowledge ConexBird and DP World can offer together. The Jebel Ali port ecosystem is a hotbed of innovation and technology, so is well poised to make the most of this new window into container insight.”
