Fire erupted in engine room of container ship GENERAL ROMULO, anchored at Talisay anchorage, Cebu City, at around 0940 LT (UTC +8) Apr 17. Fire spread around and engulfed most part of superstructure, crew were evacuated by CG and port service. Of 20 crew on board, one – 62-year old Chief Engineer died, three suffered burns. The ship was abandoned by 1000 LT. AIS is off since 1000 LT.
GENERAL ROMULO arrived at Cebu anchorage at around 0500 LT Apr 17 from Bugo Philippines, and was waiting for berth.
