Meerut: A potential disaster was narrowly avoided in Saharanpur on Tuesday night when an iron gate was discovered on the tracks near Tapri station just as the Anand Vihar-Kotdwar Express was approaching. The train was stopped in time after authorities were alerted. An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident.
Station Superintendent Sunil Kumar said, “The gate, measuring 5 feet by 4 feet and weighing over 50 kg, was found on the tracks around 1 a.m. A gateman, about 2 kilometers from the station, heard the sound of the gate falling and immediately notified officials.” Kumar added, “We are treating this as a potential sabotage attempt.”
