A crocodile was spotted on the roof of a house in Vadodara, Gujarat, as the state grapples with severe flooding following relentless heavy rainfall. The incident, captured on video, has quickly gone viral.

The ongoing floods have claimed the lives of at least 28 people and displaced thousands across the region. In Vadodara, several low-lying areas were inundated after the Vishwamitri River overflowed, flooding residential neighbourhoods.

Rescue operations are in full swing, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state authorities working tirelessly to evacuate stranded residents from their homes and rooftops.

Additionally, three columns of the Indian Army have been deployed to assist in the rescue efforts, according to officials speaking with PTI.

State Minister Rushikesh Patel reported that over 5,000 people were evacuated, with another 1,200 rescued from various parts of Vadodara on Wednesday alone.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to prepare for the cleanup process, including the deployment of cleaning equipment and the spraying of disinfectants in Vadodara as soon as floodwaters recede.

Support teams from municipal corporations in Ahmedabad and Surat, as well as municipalities in Bharuch and Anand, have also been requested to assist in the city’s recovery efforts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall for 12 districts in Gujarat, including Kachchh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.

An official statement revealed that 140 reservoirs and dams, along with 24 rivers in the state, are currently flowing above the danger level, while 122 out of 206 dams are on high alert.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel via telephone, offering assurance of all possible support and assistance from the Central government. “The Prime Minister provided guidance on protecting the lives and livestock of citizens, and assured Gujarat of full support from the Central Government,” the Chief Minister said.
