BHOPAL: A 35-year-old CRPF constable carried his duty gun home and shot his wife in Bhopal early Thursday. He called the CRPF control room and dialed 100 to report the situation before shooting himself. When police came, Ravikant Verma and his wife, Renu, 32, were dead, with their two little children screaming in another room.
Police recovered the rifle, eight spent cartridges, and 11 live rounds from the crime scene. No suicide note was found. Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was triggered by a domestic dispute. Sources revealed that Verma had received counseling during his posting in Gwalior due to marital issues. The CRPF has initiated an internal inquiry to determine how Verma managed to bring his service rifle home, and security personnel at the CRPF camp gate will be questioned as part of the investigation.
