GURGAON: A 28-year-old constable with the Delhi Police died after her scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Dwarka Expressway on Monday.
According to the police, Jyoti, who was traveling from her home in Farrukhnagar’s Alimuddinpur to Delhi around 6:30 a.m., was involved in the accident.
Jyoti was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered based on a complaint from her family, but the police have yet to identify the accused. Jyoti was a constable at Jamia Nagar police station in Delhi.
Her family received a phone call from Vibrant Hospital in Gurgaon around 8 am, informing them about the accident.
“They asked us to reach the hospital immediately,” said Jyoti’s brother, Ankit. Upon arrival, the family was informed that Jyoti had succumbed to her injuries.
In his police complaint, Ankit alleged that his sister’s death was caused by an unknown vehicle. “Due to the rash and negligent driving of the offender, my sister lost her life. The driver fled the spot, leaving my sister bleeding on the road,” Ankit stated.
A case was registered under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) on Monday night.
After the post-mortem, the police handed over Jyoti’s body to her family on Tuesday. The police are still working to identify the offender.
“It appears that the vehicle rammed into the constable’s scooter from behind. We do not know which vehicle caused the accident. There is no CCTV camera near the spot, but we are trying to find any eyewitnesses,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector S Badal.
Ankit mentioned that his sister joined the police department two years ago and was currently unmarried.
Analyzing CCTV footage from nearby areas, the police noticed a private school bus passing through the stretch at the time of the accident. They will be questioning the driver.
