NEW DELHI: Delhi Police arrested a domestic helper for allegedly stealing jewellery from her employer’s house in South Delhi, officials reported on Sunday. Along with the domestic help, a goldsmith who purchased the stolen jewellery has also been taken into custody.

The incident came to light when a complaint was filed on August 27, reporting the theft of gold and diamond jewellery sets, along with Rs 70,200 in cash, from a residence in CR Park. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was promptly initiated, according to police sources.

“During the investigation, officers visited the crime scene and gathered additional information. They also reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan.

The analysis of the CCTV footage revealed that there was no sign of forced entry into the complainant’s house at the time of the theft. This led the investigative team to focus on the domestic help, who had been employed in the household for the past two years and appeared suspicious during questioning.

Upon further interrogation, the domestic help confessed to the crime and revealed that she had sold the stolen jewellery to a goldsmith named Ankit Jain, aged 31, according to the DCP. Both the domestic help and the goldsmith have been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
