NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man wanted in a rape case in Badli was arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch after a 1,500-km chase across Gujarat. The accused had been on the run since the case was filed, according to Delhi police, who confirmed his arrest on Thursday.

Following the initiation of proclamation proceedings against him, the NR-I Crime Branch tracked down the suspect in Surat, Gujarat, after an extensive search.

The police explained that the victim, an employee from Bagwan Pura, had been befriended by the accused while they worked together. Under the guise of building trust, he drugged and sexually assaulted her while recording explicit photos and videos. On December 16, Delhi police received intelligence suggesting the suspect was hiding in Jai Ambey Nagar, Surat, Gujarat. The team quickly acted on the information and conducted a successful raid, apprehending the accused.

The suspect, Kuldeep, hails from District Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, and has studied up to the 8th grade. He had been residing in Bawana, Delhi, for about 5-6 years, working as a welder at a local factory. Police also revealed that he had used a mobile phone containing explicit content to blackmail the victim for sextortion.
