NEW DELHI: Schools across Delhi have been instructed to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant children and to refrain from issuing birth certificates to such individuals. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also directed its zones to take steps to address encroachments by illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

The directives were outlined during a virtual meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary (Home), GNCTD, on December 12. The MCD Commissioner was represented by the Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in the meeting.

Following the discussions, the MCD instructed concerned heads of departments and zonal authorities to implement specific preventive measures.

“The Education Department is to take preventive actions to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants during the admission process in municipal schools,” said B.P. Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of MCD. “Additionally, a proper identification and verification drive must be conducted to locate such individuals in schools.”

The Public Health Department has also been tasked with ensuring no birth certificates are issued to illegal Bangladeshi migrants. “Precautionary measures should be taken during birth registration, and a verification drive should be initiated to identify illegal migrants who have already been issued birth certificates,” the MCD stated.

The MCD has mandated that an Action Taken Report be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (HQ) by 3:30 PM every Friday for further transmission to relevant authorities. Heads of Schools are required to submit their reports by December 31.
