India has urged the authorities in Dhaka to refrain from fostering negativity in their bilateral relationship. In this context, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated concerns regarding Bangladesh’s antagonistic behavior, emphasizing that Bangladesh must clarify the nature of its desired relationship with India. Speaking shortly after a meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Touhid Hossain, in Muscat, the minister remarked that Dhaka cannot simultaneously express a desire for amicable relations with India while attributing all domestic issues to India. Jaishankar stated, “If members of the interim government consistently blame India for various problems, many of which are, upon examination, quite absurd, it undermines their claim of wanting good relations. It is contradictory to seek a positive relationship while also assigning blame for every misfortune. This is a choice that Bangladesh must confront.” He further noted that the challenges in their bilateral ties encompass two primary issues, one of which involves communal violence against minorities.
