Bathinda: The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have begun discussions following the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order giving the Haryana government a week to remove barricades from the Shambhu border between the two states. This removal would clear the path for the farmers’ march to Delhi.
The farmer groups will decide their next steps on July 16, when the one-week deadline expires. Their decision is currently on hold as they await a copy of the Haryana government’s affidavit to understand its plan of action. Some farmers are inclined to resume the march to Delhi if the Haryana government adheres to the court’s July 10 order and provides a clear passage.
Even the Supreme Court has expressed disapproval of the blockade, and the Haryana government has decided not to challenge the high court’s orders.
In addition, the farmers plan to meet with opposition members in Delhi to push for a private members’ bill in the Budget Session. This bill would demand a legal guarantee of the minimum support price for all crops based on the C2+50% profit formula.
Farmer unionist Sarvan Singh Pandher stated, “The opposition has the demand charter and we have requested a meeting on July 22 during a Delhi convention at the Constitution Club, where subject experts will present their views.”
On Sunday, farmer unionists held a lengthy meeting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders between Punjab and Haryana. They discussed a proposed protest outside the office of Ambala’s superintendent of police on July 17 and 18 to demand the release of protesting farmer Navdeep Singh Jalbera.
