A 43-year-old man and his teenage daughter were arrested at Minjur railway station on Monday after they were caught attempting to abandon a suitcase containing the body of a woman. The discovery was made when a commuter noticed blood leaking from the bag and immediately alerted the police.

According to the police, the man, identified as Balasubramaniam, a 43-year-old goldsmith from Nellore, had murdered his 65-year-old neighbor, Mannam Ramani, on Sunday night. The motive behind the crime was to steal her gold ornaments. After killing her, Balasubramaniam stuffed her body into a suitcase and, along with his 17-year-old daughter, traveled by MEMU train from Nellore to Chennai.

Upon reaching Minjur station, the father and daughter attempted to discard the suitcase on the platform. A railway protection force (RPF) officer grew suspicious and confronted Balasubramaniam, asking him to open the bag. To the shock of onlookers, the suitcase contained the lifeless body of the elderly woman.

The police swiftly took the accused into custody. Balasubramaniam and his daughter were handed over to the Korrukupet railway police, who registered a case of murder. The body was sent for postmortem examination to confirm the cause of death.

The case is set to be transferred to the Nellore police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
