The Gujarat High Court (HC) on Wednesday inquired about the timeline for the deportation of two Bangladeshi minors, who were allegedly rescued from the flesh trade in India. The court’s inquiry came after the girls’ father arrived in India and filed a habeas corpus petition seeking custody of his daughters.

The minors were rescued by the Ahmedabad city crime branch in August from an apartment in Vastral. The police arrested one Sagar Mondal, who trafficked the girls to India and forced them into prostitution. He is also accused of raping one of the sisters. Additionally, the girls’ mother and another woman, who was married to Mondal, were detained in connection with the case.

The state government has opposed the girls’ deportation, stating that their presence might be needed as witnesses in the case against Mondal. It also clarified that the Union Home Ministry is overseeing the deportation process, and therefore, it cannot determine the exact date for their return.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 4.
