LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh police arrested four individuals on Sunday linked to the violence that erupted in the Maharajganj area of Bahraich during Durga idol immersion on October 13. Two suspects were apprehended for the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra, while the other two face charges of arson and vandalism that followed the shooting.
Authorities indicated that a review of CCTV footage and intelligence led to the arrests of Maruf and Nankau, who were on a rooftop from which Sarfaraz allegedly fired at Mishra. The duo was detained near a bridge. Sarfaraz, along with his brother Talim and three others, had been arrested earlier on October 17.
In a separate incident, Sushil Kumar Dwivedi and Mannu were taken into custody for their involvement in arson and vandalism on October 14. They are accused of setting vehicles and homes ablaze and looting properties in Maharajganj, Maheshpurwa, Jot Chandpara, and Parsohana. To date, police have arrested 100 individuals and filed 15 FIRs related to these incidents.
