Dutch shipbuilder Damen has received four ship orders from German shipowners for Damen’s combi bulk fuel-efficient freighters.
The orders were placed by Reederei Wessels and HS Shipping Group (HS Schiffahrt), both from Haren in northern Germany. Both ordered two Damen Combi Freighter 3850 (CF 3850) vessels.
HS Shipping Group and Reederei Wessels are also repeat customers with Damen Shipyards.
“The positive experiences of these shipowners with Damen are very encouraging,” said Remko Bouma, sales manager at Damen Cargo Vessels. “We believe that with the new CF 3850, we can offer a general-purpose vessel that performs extremely well. Their belief in this concept and the previous experiences, have made the co-operation with both Ems-based companies very pleasant.”
Damen’s newly designed Combi Freighter 3850, with a 3,850 tonnes deadweight, measures 89.70 metres length overall at 12.50 metres beam. Damen says they can maintain more then 10 knots of speed in headwinds when fully loaded, with a redesigned hydrodynamic hull shape and a smaller, more fuel-efficient engine. So far it has four of the vessels already in operation and 13 on order.
The vessels will be built in series at the Damen Yichang Shipyard in China
