The Ministry of Education has received multiple complaints regarding illegal activities in Auroville, Puducherry, which have been forwarded to investigative agencies for further inquiry, junior Union Education Minister Sukanta Majumdar announced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Auroville, described as an “experiment in human unity” on its website, is facing scrutiny over a range of alleged offenses.
The complaints, originating from various sources including Auroville residents, include claims of land encroachment, drug abuse, cyber crimes involving data theft and unauthorized server leaks, immigration law violations, black money circulation, money laundering, and irregularities in land exchanges.
Majumdar explained that complaints under the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code have been directed to the relevant authorities for investigation. Complaints concerning land exchanges have been sent to the Auroville Foundation, which is expected to review the issues and report findings to the governing board for further action.
