On Monday night, Belluru town in Karnataka’s Mandya district was on edge after a 28 year old tailor named Abhilash was brutally assaulted by a group allegedly from the minority community over a collision which occurred on Saturday evening.
According to sources, Abhilash was assaulted when he was returning from his shop on Monday evening following which the group entered nearby colonies and proceeded to abuse the residents there. Abhilash was rushed to a private hospital while the residents lodged a complaint in the Belluru Police Station.
However, it was alleged that the police delayed filing an FIR. This led to a protest outside the police station. “Based on a complaint lodged by Abhilash’s father, we have registered an FIR under IPC section 307,” Mandya SP N Yatish said on Tuesday. No arrests have been made yet.
Police mentioned that the accused group has lodged a counter complaint. On Tuesday morning, Southern Range DIG Amit Singh visited the town and reviewed the situation while senior BJP and JD(S) functionaries visited the hospital to enquire about Abhilash.
