NEW DELHI: The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has cancelled the Class 12 English examination for the March 2025 session across the state following reports of a paper leak, officials confirmed on Friday.
The breach occurred at Government Senior Secondary School, Chowari, in Chamba district, where faculty mistakenly unsealed the Class 12 English question paper instead of the Class 10 paper. According to the examination schedule, the Class 10 English exam was set for March 7, while the Class 12 English exam was scheduled for March 8.
The Board received an anonymous tip-off on March 7, alleging that the Class 12 English question paper had been opened prematurely. A swift investigation confirmed the violation through video evidence obtained from the “Exam Mitra App,” a recently introduced monitoring system.
“The Board received an anonymous complaint on 07.03.2025 (AN) regarding the premature opening of the Class 12 English question paper during the March 2025 Annual Examination at Government Senior Secondary School, Chowari, Chamba district. The Board took serious note of the issue and verified the claim using video footage available through the Exam Mitra App, implemented for the first time in this examination cycle,” the official notification stated.
Board Orders Statewide Exam Cancellation
Exercising authority under Section 2.1.2 of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education Examination Regulations, 1993 (amended up to July 2017), HPBOSE Secretary Vishal Sharma ordered the immediate cancellation of the Class 12 English examination statewide.
The official statement further read:
“The Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, in the exercise of powers vested under Section 2.1.2 of the HPBOSE Examination Regulations, 1993 (amended up to July 2017), hereby orders the cancellation of the Class 12 English examination for the March 2025 session across all examination centres in the state due to the aforementioned reasons. A fresh date for the rescheduled examination will be announced separately in due course.”

Officials have urged students to stay updated via the official HPBOSE website or consult their respective educational institutions for further announcements regarding the rescheduled exam date.
