NEW DELHI: In a huge breakthrough, Delhi Police detained three individuals in connection with the violent gangrape of a 34-year-old woman researcher from Odisha, as reported on October 11. Their investigation revealed that the event occurred near ITO, and the woman, who has a mental health condition, was dropped in southeast Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan in a car. Police said the survivor is currently being treated at a central government hospital.
According to authorities, two of the accused, one of whom was inebriated, planned to rape the woman when they discovered her alone. They allegedly forced her into a secluded spot and assaulted her. An autorickshaw driver, who observed the incident, allegedly raped the woman in his car before leaving her off near Sarai Kale Khan, where she was discovered. The incident was reported by source on October 12.

The arrested guys are an auto driver, Prabhu Mahto (28), a scrap trader, Pramod Babu (32), and a beggar, Mohammed Shamshul (29). They were identified by CCTV analysis, technical monitoring, and human information networks. The detectives have uncovered significant evidence related to the crime. The autorickshaw has also been seized.
Crucial physical evidence, including the survivor’s blood-stained clothes, consisting of a trouser and a salwar, as well as the clothes worn by the accused at the time of the crime, have been confiscated. These include Mahto and Pramod’s outfits, as well as Shamsul’s cap, belt, and shoes.
