On Saturday, her sons and other family members burned alive a 62-year-old woman who had been tied to a tree.
The sub-divisional police officer of Jirania, Kamal Krishna Koloi, stated: “After receiving information that a woman had been set on fire, a police team hurried there and discovered the burnt body tied to a tree. We took the body to the hospital for a postmortem examination.”
Officials believe the event was caused by a family feud. The elderly widow lived with her two sons after her husband died about one and a half years ago. One son resided with her, and the other lived in the state capital, Agartala.
“We’ve detained her two sons for possible involvement in the case. They will appear in court on Monday to request police remand for interrogation. A family conflict could be the cause of the occurrence,” the official noted.
Similar incidents of crime at April 2024, a 26-year-old lady was allegedly set on fire by her lover at a public park in Chandigarh’s Sector 35 after a verbal altercation over their relationship became violent.
In her last declaration, the victim blamed her partner for the crime, and she eventually died from burn injuries. The man claimed innocence and stated that the woman committed suicide after their last encounter before their ‘break-up’. According to eyewitnesses, the man raced to help her and removed his T-shirt to try to douse the fire, but was unable to save her life.
