IndiGo has responded to concerns about a recent “go-around” by its flight in Chennai during Cyclone Fengal, emphasizing that the maneuver is both standard and safe.
Flight 6E 683, traveling from Mumbai to Chennai, encountered heavy rain and strong winds as the cyclone lashed the region. As the aircraft approached the runway, it aborted the landing just before touchdown and ascended again—a moment captured in a viral video on social media.
While some social media users questioned the flight’s timing, many praised the pilot’s decision, recognizing it as a critical move to ensure passenger safety.
In its statement, IndiGo clarified that the go-around was executed in line with established safety protocols due to adverse weather conditions. “On November 30, 2024, flight 6E 683 performed a go-around in accordance with safety guidelines due to severe weather, including strong winds and rain,” an IndiGo spokesperson said. “This is a routine and safe maneuver, and our pilots are trained to handle such situations with professionalism.”
The airline reassured passengers, explaining, “A go-around is initiated when a safe landing cannot be guaranteed, as was the case with this flight. Passenger safety remains our top priority.”

Chennai airport suspended operations due to Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall late Saturday night into Sunday, resulting in flight disruptions until 4 a.m. on Sunday. Operations resumed shortly after, and IndiGo announced the return of its services, advising passengers to stay updated on flight schedules due to ongoing weather instability.
