On Tuesday morning, Jammu and Kashmir experienced two consecutive earthquakes, causing widespread alarm across the valley.
The first tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, struck at 6:45 a.m. with its epicenter in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. This quake occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers, at a latitude of 34.17° N and a longitude of 74.16° E.
Just minutes later, at 6:52 a.m., a second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 hit the same region. This tremor was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter also in Baramulla, at a latitude of 34.20° N and a longitude of 74.31° E.
Despite the quakes’ magnitude, officials have reported no loss of life or property damage. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation.
