JODHPUR: In a shocking incident, a 70-year-old man in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur allegedly murdered the two children of his business partner out of resentment over a failed bangle factory partnership, police said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Shyam Singh Bhati, picked up the children, Tamanna (12) and Shivpal (8), from their school in Pal on Friday, January 24, under the pretense of taking them home. Instead, he took them to his rented house near the bangle factory in Boranada, where he killed them and hanged their bodies, according to police reports.
The gruesome discovery was made two days after the children were reported missing. Their father, Pradeep Devasai, had filed a missing persons report at Boranada police station on Saturday.
Accused’s Resentment Over Financial Loss
Police said Bhati and Devasai had been acquainted for nearly two decades and started a bangle factory together nine months ago. However, Devasai ended the partnership for personal reasons, reportedly causing financial losses to Bhati. This led Bhati to harbor deep resentment toward Devasai and his family.
DCP (West) Rajarshi Raj Verma stated that Bhati carried out the crime to “teach Devasai a lesson.” A note found at the scene revealed Bhati’s admission to the murders, citing betrayal as his motive. The note also indicated his intent to take his own life.
Manhunt Underway for Accused
Bhati, originally from Phalodi, Rajasthan, is currently absconding, and police have launched a search operation to apprehend him.
Gruesome Details of the Crime
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bhati, after luring the children to his house, committed the murders before hanging their bodies. The rented house, located near the Jain Temple in Boranada, was in close proximity to the factory where the two men once worked together.
Devasai’s family, who hail from Uttar Pradesh, have been left devastated by the tragedy. DCP Verma added that Bhati’s resentment stemmed from financial losses incurred after Devasai left the partnership, which he perceived as a betrayal.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down Bhati and ensure justice for the bereaved family.
