Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and DMP SAS, Kalmar’s regional dealer, have concluded an agreement with Société De Manutention Et De Consignation Maritime (SOMACOM) to deliver three diesel-electric straddle carriers for use at the Ile de la Réunion Terminal. The large order was booked in Cargotec’s 2023 Q4 order intake with delivery scheduled to be completed during Q4 2024.
Port Réunion, the busiest container port in the Indian Ocean, is situated on the west coast of Réunion Island. It is the island’s only port, located some 20 kilometres from the island’s capital St Denis. The main cargoes handled are petroleum products, building materials, sugar products, grain and food produce. The port’s equipment fleet already includes Kalmar straddle carriers, reachstackers, forklifts and empty container handlers.
The straddle carriers delivered to SOMACOM are powered by a highly efficient diesel-electric power unit and feature excellent manoeuvrability, quiet operation and easy maintenance. The spacious, ergonomic cabin and intuitive user interface help to improve productivity by ensuring that operators benefit from the best possible driving experience.
Priscilla Damour, CEO, SOMACOM: “Kalmar equipment has always delivered in terms of performance and availability. We are confident that the new units will continue this trend and ensure that our fleet helps us to deliver the best possible service for our customers at Réunion.”
Karri Keskinen, Head of Global Sales, Horizontal Transportation, Kalmar: “This repeat order for machines with identical technical specifications demonstrates how satisfied SOMACOM has been with the performance of our equipment. I would also like to highlight the important role played by DMP SAS in securing this order and continuing to provide the customer with an excellent level of local support.”
