A 19-year-old kanwariya was fatally stabbed and nearly half a dozen others were injured during a clash between two groups of ‘dak kanwariyas’ in Baghpat district, UP. Police stated, the incident occurred as the groups competed to be the first to reach their village temple in Haryana with holy water for Lord Shiva. According to the locals statement, about 20 men from both sides were involved, attacking each other with bricks, sticks, and sharp objects around 11:30 am on Friday.
During the melee, Vansh Kumar from Aterna village in Sonipat was stabbed in the lower back and died shortly due to excessive blood loss. SP Arpit Vijayvargiya reported that CCTV footage and videos are being reviewed to identify and arrest those involved from Haryana.
Eyewitness Raj Kumar described the scene as chaotic, with the fight erupting over a disagreement while running with the holy water. The injured were taken to a community health center in Binauli.
